January 15, 2009 Minutes


Clayton Federated Women’s Club
General Meeting January 15, 2009


The meeting was called to order at 11:40. Ruth Lawrence led us in prayer, Corinne Smith led the Club Collect, and Jackie Mares led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Karan read the minutes from the board meeting and informed us that Isabelle Williams had resigned from her position as Club Secretary and Jamie Blanks had been appointed as the new Club Secretary. Jamie Blanks presented more information on the reusable bags and the Board approved printing & colors for the bag. Jamie Blanks requested permission to start a civic division, which was approved by 5 board members.

Jamie Blanks handed out minutes to be reviewed and informed members that minutes wouldn’t be read in the meeting to save time. Members can read the minutes that will be provided before the meeting. Minutes for November meeting were approved. Jamie also informed members of new website, cfwc.blogspot.com, in which members could read minutes, get info on upcoming events, etc. Those without web access will be mailed information. Jamie requested everyone to give their email or residential address.

The treasurer’s report indicated that we had a balance on hand at the November of $6,808.78. Deposits of $3442.45 were made and disbursements of $4981.79 were made leaving a new balance of $5319.44. Total net income for the Christmas Bazaar, excluding nut sales, was $827.61. Total net income for nut sales was $1,341.55.

Discussion was led about what we should do in honor of Louise Jenkins. Pat Chavez made motion to have a scholarship in her name this year. Cleo Collins made motion to donate $25.00 towards Bibles for Gideons in her name. Karan motioned that we take up collection to donate to Senior Citizens in her name. All motions passed and collection was taken. Discussion was also had about what to do in honor of Chuck Richardson, because of his many years help with club projects. Pat Chavez made motion to donate $25.00 to the Museum in his name., which was passed. Darlene Walker was appointed to make arrangements with Hass Funeral home for club members to sit together at the service.

Lunch was served. Karan thanked Hostess and remarked on lovely snowman centerpieces.
Guest Ida Ray of Spearman, TX and two new members, Jackie Mares and Nona Collins were introduced. Cleo Collins said she had another lady interested in joining.

Cleo Collins informed us that she was going this afternoon to talk about the Donahue Scholarship and tell them about the Louise Jenkins Scholarship. She will get her committee together soon and start getting the word out to applicants about our scholarships.

Isabel Williams informed us that the Christmas family had gotten their Christmas that we donated to them and was very appreciative. She didn’t know how much was collected, but knew that Carol Childress had gone to Arizona to do some of the shopping and was also going to go to the Ranch market for their dinner items.

Discussion on where to get shirts came up. It was decided that Jamie Blanks will talk with Sue Richardson and get shirts ordered. Ladies who wanted shirts were to give Jamie their shirt size.
Isabel Williams informed the club she was going to use the new reusable bag for the cover on the scrapbook.

Jamie told members that reusable bags had been purchased for total cost of $1,595.00. We will sell them for $2.00 and to vendors at a discounted price.

Art Division had their December meeting at the Kokopelli where they made snowman candy holders and pincushions. January meeting is set for the 29th at 1:00 p.m. and lesson will be on watercolors. Members were asked to bring watercolors, watercolor pencils, and brushes.
District Convention 2009 Committee was appointed which includes Corine, Jackie, Cleo, Beth, Pat, Jamie, Ethel, Ruth, & Karan. Shirley said she would volunteer. Pat was nominated chairman and will inform members of 1st meeting.

Reusable Bag Committee was appointed and Jamie was appointed Chairmin. Members include Nona and Sue.

If any other members would like to be a part of these committees, please contact the chairman.
Jamie informed members of the new Civic Division and the kick off party that will be January 29th at 7:00. She stated that the civic division was to inform members of services available in the community and needs the community might have so we can better serve the community. It will be an evening meeting so ladies that have and interest in the community and the CFWC, but can’t attend the lunch meetings will be able to attend.

Karan asked members to add up hours and money/ items donated to the club during 2008.

Jamie Blanks won door prize.

Meeting adjourned at 1:55.
