October Newsletter

We missed some of you at last Thursday's meeting and since there were a few important things discussed we will inform those of you who weren't there, and remind those of you who were. It was a nice meeting at the Rabbit Ear Restaurant. Everyone seemed to enjoy the good food and good company. Thanks to Isabel for the lovely decorations and door prizes.

As most of you know, we contact the elementary school every year and they give us the particulars about a needy family. We buy clothes and toys for the children and food for the family for Christmas. We ask each member to contribute $10. for this family, if they can. Everyone who was at Thursday's meeting did contribute, and those who did not attend can send their contributions to Sue Richardson, but she will need it before the end of October. Carol Childress and Nola Childress will be taking on the responsibility for this family, and the need to begin their shopping soon.

Also, Isabel passed out the Operation Christmas Child Shoe boxes. We fill these with gifts for a boy or a girl, indicating the age group (2-4, 5-9, or 10-14). The international relief organization Samaritan's Purse then distributes them to poor children overseas. If anyone would like a shoebox for this project, contact Isabel immediately at (575) 374-0930. Time is of the essence, the filled shoe boxes should be returned to Isabel before the end of October.

We had discussed tote bags at our September meeting, either recycled plastic or cloth bags that we can take to the grocery store and other shopping to reduce the use of plastic and paper bags. One of our new members, Jamie Blanks, has been researching where to get these bags and she reported her findings at the meeting. We suggested that she contact a couple people in Clayton who could provide that sort of thing and authorized her to sped up to $1600; hopefully to have the bags to sell at the Bazaar. We feel this is a worthwhile project to help the environment and make a little money at the same time.

Our Major fund-raiser, the Christmas Bazaar, will be held on Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9. The club will have it's baked goods and nuts booth, as well as a welcome booth, both of which need to be manned while the Bazaar is in progress. Some of the ladies have already signed up, and we will need every one's help.

If you have ares and/or crafts that you would like to enter in the District III meeting to be held in Roswell October 25, get them to Beth Wallis,23 Jenkins Rd., Clayton (575) 374- 4004, by Oct 22.

Don't forget to get your nut orders to Cleo by October 24.

The next Art Division meeting is Thursday, November 6. Someone will contact you by phone before the meeting.

There will be a tole painting class on October 15. Everyone is welcome and there will be a charge for the class and for materials. Part of the money goes toward the proposed Clayton Arts Center. Call Pat Chavez for more information at (575) 374-6333.

The next regular club luncheon meeting will be Thursday, November13 at 11:30 am in the Rabbit Ear Restaurant on South 1st Street. The program will be a short performance of the children's dance class and we'll have reports on Karan's Hawaiian vacation, the District III meeting and the Christmas Bazaar.

To any of you who are not feeling well and to those of you who have relatives who are ill, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
