September 13, 2008 Minutes

Clayton Federated Women’s Club
General Meeting November 13, 2008

The meeting was called to order and the Club Collect and Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Guest Mary Lutes gave a program on quilting.

Karan asked members to give her a list of the hours they have worked and the value of anything they have donated, so that she can get year-end reports written up.

The minutes of the October meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report indicated that we had a balance on hand at the last meeting of $4,282.45. Deposits of $3,602.50 were made and disbursements of $1,076.17 were made leaving a new balance of $6,808.78. Members were reminded that we have not yet received the bill for the nuts.

Income from the Christmas Bazaar was $2,852.25, included $982.50 in booth rentals, $484.30 in baked good sales and $1,385.45 in nut sales. Monies from the individual sale of nuts are still coming in. Sue reminded everyone to get the nut money and the Christmas family money to her.

At last month’s meeting, a motion was made and passed to purchase shopping bags and Jamie Blanks was authorized to spend up to $1,600.00 for reusable grocery bags to be sold from the grocery store and other stores in town. Jamie had found one supplier that seemed to have a bag we liked at a reasonable price; however, the cost of shipping would not allow the resale price of the bags to be reasonable. Jamie has now found another supplier and will proceed with the project. The bags will cost $1.55 each for 1,000 and it was suggested that we sell them for $2.00.

Alberta May won the door prize.

Sue reported that the Bazaar did well, with the good sales for the club and most of the booths reported good sales. The food concession didn’t do as well, because of the Catholic Church Bazaar the same weekend. Next year we will give the Church plenty of notice about our bazaar.
Pat Chavez noted that the KOA booth at the Christmas Bazaar featured, among other things, Christmas cards and other cards made with the Iris Folding we learned in our October art class. Very impressive!

Karan reported on the District III Convention in Roswell and also made note that the Clayton federated Women’s Club will host the District III Convention next fall with a tentative date for October 10th, 2009.

Meeting adjourned.
