2.13.09 Minutes

Clayton Federated Women’s Club
General Meeting February 13, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 11:30. Darlene Walker led us in prayer; Edith Lois Priest led the Club Collect and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Jamie Blanks handed out minutes to be reviewed and minutes for January meeting were approved.

The treasurer’s report indicated that we had a balance on hand at the January meeting of $5319.44. Deposits of $88.15 were made and disbursements of $2,432.54 were made leaving a new balance of $2,975.05.

Sue Richardson let us know who had written thank you notes and what they had been for. Thank you notes were passed around for members to read.

Darlene Walker told us about the Jewelry class that the Art Division had had on February 5th. The turnout was very good and everyone had such a good time that another jewelry class was requested.

Jamie Blanks told everyone about the Civic Group meeting that was on February 5th as well. They had 5 members attend and 4 prospective members attend. Discussions were had about potential projects and meeting programs. Attendees seemed to be excited about the possibilities of the Civic Group. Civic Group meetings will be held every 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:00. Social time will start at 6:30. The next meeting will be held February 19th at Warp 12, 12 Main St.

Nola Childress told us that the Christmas Family had 3 boys and 1girl and they had given each child a pair of pants, a jacket, 2 shirts, and a game. The family had also received a $50.00 gift card to the Ranch Market for Christmas dinner.

Cleo Collins informed the club of the applicants for the Donahue Scholarship. 3 girls had applied and they chose Shelby Hatch to receive the scholarship. Everyone seemed pleased with the decision. Cleo told us that in the interview, Shelby had said that she had been saving since she was little for college and that she had worked a part-time job which half her earnings went to save for college. She seemed to be very comfortable with the ladies interviewing her. She also told them that she had planned to study Forensic Science while at college.

Jamie Blanks said that the bags were ordered and that they would be here mid to late March. She also showed us a picture of the bag and said it would be posted on the website.

Pat Chaves said that the committee meeting for the District Convention would be Wednesday 18, 2009 at 4:00. (The meeting has since been canceled and members will be notified of new date.) It will be held at 214 Washington St. (Pat’s House).

Karan announced that the President’s report was completed and that members could view it if they wanted.

Lunch was served. Karan thanked Hostess and remarked on lovely Valentine decorations and candy cups.

Jo Beth gave a presentation on educating the community of the problems of drinking while driving, alcoholism, & drug abuse. The program lasted 30 minutes.

Karan Brower also discussed club projects and how we could make personal projects into club projects.

Announcements included the Museum Tea Party which will be held in April and members are encouraged to attend and volunteer for the function. The Extension Club Health Fair will also be in April and any member who wants to volunteer is welcome.

Meeting adjourned at 1:10.


Karan read emails from the State and National GFWC. One was encouraging members to vote for stimulus bill which included funding for Domestic Violence. The other email encouraged clubs to get community awareness for proper installation of children’s car seats. Discussion was held for 40 minutes on Car seat safety and precautions to take while traveling and staying in hotels.
