March Newsletter

Dear CFWC Ladies,

Here are the minutes from the March meeting and some announcements.

SEE THE CANADIAN ROCKIES BY RAIL WITH GFWC! Reward yourself for a productive year and resolve to spend time with your GFWC friends as we experience the Canadian Rockies by rail, July 13-22, 2009. Step for the Roses is the perfect program to use as part of GFWC's Weight Loss Challenge! Get your club together and get out into your community. GFWC will provide ongoing education and inspiration, and the resources at http://www.stepfortheroses.com/ will keep you on track.
You’ll need a step counter to track your steps. GFWC members can order a Step for the Roses participant packet ($12) that includes a step counter, log card, and booklet to help you track daily steps and work toward walking goals. Contact Karan Brower to join the Step for Roses program.

Next Civic meeting is Thursday, March 19th at Kokopelli Dining Room. 6:30 social time 7:00-8:00 Meeting.

Next Art Class is Thursday April 2nd & April 16th at Warp 12 on Main St. Karan Brower will be teaching pottery. You may come any time between 10:00am to 2:00pm to start your project. If you want to do more than one, please come at 10:00. It is a 2 part class so you will need to attend both classes in order to complete your project(s).

Next General meeting will be April 9th at Rabbit Ear Restaurant. The program will be on public affairs (Darleen Walker). Hostesses will be Edith Lois Priest and Elizabeth Hayes. See you there!

3.12.09 Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 11:40. Darlene Walker led us in prayer; Linda Gonzales led the Club Collect and Nola Childress led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Victoria Baker was introduced as a new member.

Karan talked about Leadership for 20 min.

Jamie Blanks asked if there were any corrections to the minutes. Pat Chavez made motion to approve minutes and Ethel Benningfield second motion. Minutes for March meeting were approved.

Sue Richardson gave the treasurer’s report which indicated that we had a balance on hand at the February meeting of $2,975.05. Deposits of $373.03 were made and disbursements of $66.54 were made leaving a new balance of $3,281.54.

Sue Richardson let gave correspondence report which included information on one of our scholarship recipients, Melody Arguello, who has postponed her second semester of college at ENMU to go into the National Guard. $250.00 was applied to her 1st semester and $250.00 will be applied to the next semester that she attends.

Darlene Walker gave a report about the Jewelry class that the Art Division had had on March 5, 2009. Their program was on quelling and members were encouraged to take their art projects to the District Convention in September.

Jamie Blanks gave a report about the Civic Group meeting that was on February 19, 2009. The program was given by Mary Eakes of the Golden Spread Coalition. She informed members of programs the coalition offered. The Civic group decided to help inform Clayton residents of the Manna Food Box and also decided to help host a Parental Assembly at the school to inform parents on the dangers and signs of drug and alcohol use. Sue made motion for new club projects presented by Civic Group. Pat second and motion passed.

Scholarship committee did not have any updates.

Library Report was given by Edith Lois Priest. Nothing new to report.

Chamber report was given by Sue Richardson. She informed members of Chamber Banquet on Tuesday, March 31st

Museum report was given by Edith Lois Priest. She informed members that they were taking applications for new director. She also reminded us of the Tea Party on Sunday April 19th from 2 to 4. Members are encouraged to attend and/ or volunteer.

Jamie Blanks gave report on the reusable bags. Members were informed of increased bag sales and were given the opportunity to place their own bag orders. Bags will be here in 2 weeks.

Pat Chaves gave report on District Convention which will be held September 26, 2009. Meeting will be held at Clayton Gospel Church and Banquet will be at Rancho de Suenos (the Blanks’ family ranch). The theme will be Crossroads Country (western). Pat made motion to use Reusable Bags as grab bags at the convention. Karan second and motion passed.

Signup sheets were passed around for members who had teapots to use at the Museum Tea party, members who wanted to volunteer at the tea party, and shirt orders.

Darlene Walker passed a signup sheet around so members could sign up to volunteer at the Health Fair on April 22nd.

State Convention was announced and members were asked to attend.

Victoria Baker won Door Prize. Karan remarked on adorable St. Patrick’s Day Magnets and thanked Nola Childress and Carol Childress for their beautiful decorations.

Members were reminded to change batteries in smoke detectors or get smoke detectors.
GFWC announcements included:

Step for the Roses, Member Spotlight (Green living & Historic preservation), and Vacation Destinations and Discounts.
