General Meeting April 8, 2010
Program was given by Jo Beth Vigil-Price on education. She wanted to educate members on being Bipolar. It is a mental illness also known as manic depressive. There are several types and it is a long term illness. People that suffer from this disease need support and encouragement. If you think someone you know might suffer from this disease, offer to accompany them to the doctor to see if there is some help they could receive. (11:50-12:10)
Collection of Worksheets
Jamie Blanks asked if there were any corrections to the minutes. Wrong name was printed for Irene Carrosco. Minutes for March meeting were approved with correction.
Treasurer’s Report was not available.
Darlene Walker gave a report for the Art Division about the Dine Out meeting scheduled for May 6, 2010.
Carol Childress gave a report about the Civic Group meeting. Civic group is still working on 501-C-3 papers and a contract for the building. We will have Vicki Watson as a guest speaker at next meeting. She is a small business development specialist.
Carol also showed us the horse that she bought for the convention.
Committee Reports:
Sue Richardson gave Courtesy Committee report which a note to Isabel Williams with sympathy for the death in their family. Also, Isabel is unwell and in the hospital herself. Several members said they would visit her.
Membership committee was not available.
Ruth Lawrence gave report on nominating committee. Nothing new, we will take nominations for officers and vote at end of meeting.
Scholarship Committee- Sue said that the Donahue scholarship had been completed and we received 3 applications to the other scholarships. Karan needs to send invite out to recipients to join us at Dine out meeting. Invite needs to include instructions about scholarship.
Chamber of Commerce- Sue Richardson reported that Chamber Banquet wasn’t attended as hoped, but banquet was nice and Brian gave a wonderful presentation.
Library report was given by Edith Lois. They were working on bylaws and they had gotten 2 new loveseats for reading room. She asked members to donate books on tape, movies, and large print books.
Unfinished Business
Cookbook- recipes need to be turned in no later than April 15th.
State Convention (April 23-24) - several ladies are already attending, please come if you can. Karan and Pat (& other volunteers) are going to make 80 favors & Jamie will be responsible for 10 Centerpieces. Cost will be $85 which includes all meals (excluding breakfast). Room expenses will be covered by club. Get art turned in to Karan by Wed. night. If you received 2nd place on up, you need to send your art to convention. Wrap artwork well so it doesn’t get damaged.
